2009

  • Rocket-Hire: complete site redesign for an existing client. I worked extensively with the client to define the presentation and scope of his services. As usual, I applied modern best practices to his site, along with a custom WordPress publishing system and Google Custom Site Search.
  • San Francisco Human Services Agency: information architecture, semantic markup within the client’s existing non-semantic template, expanded use of CSS.
  • Stasi Martin, Realtor: complete site redesign and re-architecture for a San Francisco real estate professional.
  • Kelly Sutherlin McLeod Architects: site redesign in progress.
  • Just Art Pottery: complete redesign in progress, new information architecture, expanding use of CSS, semantic markup, search engine optimization, page load speed improvements.
  • The Gamble House Conservation Website: complete new sub-site in progress.

2008

  • A ‘New and Native’ Beauty: The Art and Craft of Greene & Greene: museum exhibit traveling to the Huntington Library, Smithsonian, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Complete site design, additional photography of museum objects.
  • The Lew Edwards Group: complete site overhaul for a political communications consultancy: re-branding, re-organization, re-design.
  • (Anonymous): complete new site for a company providing financial software services.
  • Just For You Cafe: developed an easily updatable “daily specials” page with RSS feed; e-mail list management and regular newsletter creation; restaurant photography.
  • Gray Brechin, Historical Geographer & Author: complete site redesign, photography.
  • California Health Advocates: Nearly 400 page site, regularly updated by yours truly. Highlights include a pure CSS layout, Section 508 accessible content, semantic HTML mark-up, a printer-friendly format via CSS, an RSS feed, Wordpress blog, a text resizer, and Google custom search.
  • Bayshore Sanitary District: complete new site and photography for a government agency.

  • WhitMcLeod: total site redesign and e-commerce implementation.
  • Narus: complete CSS/XHTML site redesign.
  • Urban Bay Properties: Continuing my engagement begun in 2004: developed new content areas and interactive functions; developed an attractive HTML template for listing properties on CraigsList (still being used in 2009).

  • Glacier Home: new site for a Montana vacation rental home.
  • Growing Image Landscape: new site for a Marin County landscaper.
  • The Mescall Group: site redesign for a creative services agency.
  • Jonathan Swain: new site for a freelance writer/editor.
  • Urban Bay Properties: site redesign and expanded functionality for a San Francisco Bay Area real estate broker.
  • The Gamble House: complete site redesign for this historic home museum in Pasadena, California.
  • Emerge Records: complete new site design for an independent record label.

2004

  • NetInfomer: complete site redesign.
  • Narus: complete site redesign.
  • McLeod Chairs: complete new site design, including much of the photography, for Whit McLeod Furniture.
  • Urban Bay Properties: complete new database-driven dynamic website for a fast-growing San Francisco real estate broker. This was an exceptionally complex project that stretched over the next 4 years and included developing many new features and content areas on the site. My site design is still being used in late 2009.
  • Lofts Unlimited (part of Urban Bay Properties): site redesign and search engine optimization.
  • Pacific Interment: search engine optimization, marketing strategy.
  • nCircle Network Security: interim site redesign and re-architecture; search engine optimization.

  • CalMedicare.org: developed entire site for a non-profit agency, providing Medicare information to consumers.
  • Hamm Glass Studios: complete new site and photography for a leaded art glass craftsman; .
  • QS Technologies: complete new site for a health care software developer.
  • Just For You Cafe: complete new site for a restaurant, based on menu design.
  • Peterson Economics: complete new site for a real estate economics consultancy.
  • McKinsey Consulting: developed visual designs and CSS for The McKinsey Quarterly publication site.

  • Beutler Corporation: developed new site architecture for an HVAC supplier.
  • Artistic License: developed a new site for this guild of home design and remodeling craftspeople.
  • Electric Bike Network: developed entire site for a marketer of electric bicycles.
  • SurhLuchtel: developed site designs for a California wine maker.

2001

  • Cryptography Research Inc.: developed entire site for a cryptography software company.
  • Rynerson & O’Brien Architects: developed entire site for an architecture firm.
  • eOne Global: developed web user interfaces for a financial services conglomerate.
  • Rocket-Hire: developed entire site for a human resources consultant.
  • Holton Frame-Makers: developed 320 page site for this maker of hand-crafted frames and mirrors.

2000

  • Charles Schwab & Co.: developed page designs for a wide variety of nationwide marketing promotions, including audio, video, and interactive forums. Developed mock-ups for a Schwab.com home page redesign; highly optimized designs of top-level pages, including the home page.
  • FlightTime.com: developed site for this online broker of chartered air flights, including extensive development of their highly complex air charter booking interface. Developed and administered user tests. Collaborated extensively with their programmer to improve the information design and user experience (notably, this site has been extensively copied by competitors in the airline charter industry).
  • Goodshark.com: developed site designs and information architecture for this employment site.
  • FamilyWonder.com: developed site pages for use in conjunction with off-line marketing campaigns; developed an HTML newsletter template; developed ad banners.
  • Whit McLeod: developed entire site for this hand-crafted furniture maker.
  • The Arts & Crafts Press: developed entire site for this printer of books and cards.

1999

  • The Gamble House: developed entire site (pro bono) for this historic home in Pasadena, Calif.
  • The Craftsman Home: developed a large showcase site for a retail antiques and home furnishings shop.
  • Purchase.com: developed site designs for a business-to-business commerce site.
  • Kidflix.com: developed site designs for an online retailer, including the e-commerce flow.

1998

  • TechWeb/CMP Media
    • art directed this major online technology news site, leading a team of five designers and eight producers.
    • developed a massive network-wide site redesign, moving over twenty independent sites into a common design template while rebuilding the back-end delivery system in a new dynamic publishing system.
    • collaborated on the development of web-based internal production tools.
