List bug in IE 6 and 7: background images, gaps

See the fixed version, with no extra vertical space between list items.

This is the buggy version. It’s only a problem in Internet Explorer 6 & 7. In the navigation menu at left, you will see 2 problems unique to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser:

  1. The background image that is used for the "Services" item repeats behind each of the anchored (linked) sub-menu items. Note that the last list item in that nested unordered list has no background problem because it is not an anchor.
  2. There are big vertical gaps between the nav buttons, which are constructed as an <ul>.

Here’s how I solved the problem.

It's not a problem in Safari or Firefox, the browsers that you should be using.
